Spatial Updates

A Note to Our Creator Community

May 28, 2026

You've built extraordinary things on Spatial.

Immersive worlds, artistic experiences, virtual hangouts, and creative spaces that pushed the boundaries of what shared digital experiences can be. Every time we explored what you'd made, we were humbled by your ingenuity and imagination. That's not something we say lightly, it's something we felt every time we stepped into a space one of you had created from nothing.

That's what makes today's announcement a difficult one to write.

What's Changing

Effective July 27, 2026, Spatial will sunset its Free and Pro subscription tiers and discontinue 3D World hosting for those tiers.

If you're a Creator platform user, this affects you. If you're an Enterprise customer, nothing changes — the Spatial Enterprise platform will remain operational, and we'll continue supporting enterprise customers per terms.

We want to be fully transparent about why we're making this decision, what it means for your work, and exactly what we're doing to make this transition as smooth as possible.

Why We're Moving On

Spatial was founded on the belief that immersive technology would reshape how people create and connect. Over nine years, that belief took us from AR collaboration to an open platform for interactive 3D creators. We are proud of what this community built together, and this is not a decision we made lightly.

The cost of hosting and scaling open multiplayer 3D worlds has grown significantly and continues to climb. We explored every alternative: revised pricing models, tiered hosting plans, and partnership structures. Every path forward would have meant passing rising costs directly to you at levels that are not sustainable for independent developers and small studios. We were not able to find a model that kept the Creator platform viable without compromising the experience you and your communities deserve.

Rather than allow the creator experience to gradually degrade or become unaffordable, we’ve chosen to make the difficult decision to sunset this part of the platform with full transparency, sufficient lead time, and tools to help you retain your content.

Note: This decision applies only to the Creator platform. The Spatial Enterprise platform will remain fully operational, and we will continue supporting enterprise customers per existing terms.

The Future of Spatial

This is the end of an era for the Creator platform, and we feel the weight of that. The worlds you built, the events you hosted, the communities you brought together on this platform represent something real. We don’t take that lightly, and we won’t pretend this isn’t a loss.

At the same time, the team behind Spatial has found a path to carry our vision forward. Over the past 2 years, we’ve built an in-house game studio called Wooster Games, where we’re applying everything we learned from nine years of building immersive social experiences to developing original games. Our first title, Animal Company, has shown us where our creative and technical strengths can have the greatest impact: building deeply social, imaginative experiences from the ground up.

Going forward, we’ll focus our efforts on developing and expanding our own original IP through Wooster Games. We believe digital entertainment can be more social, more active, and far more creatively empowering than it is today, and we’re committed to bringing that vision to life.

The spirit of what made Spatial special lives on in this work. Our creative DNA and lessons from supporting this community are part of everything we build going forward.

Thank You

We mean it when we say that the Spatial Creator community is something special. The worlds you built and the experiences you shared helped shape Spatial, and will continue to inspire where we go next.

Your talent and vision will matter wherever you build next. We're grateful to have been part of your journey, and we'll be cheering you on.
